The Skill Builder — teach the platform your agency's paperwork
A skill turns one of your daily reports into a specific agency deliverable (a Tollway daily, an IDOT form, a district spreadsheet) — the same way, every time. You teach it once from a real report; approving freezes it so every future run repeats the mapping exactly. No drift.
The loop, in one breath
Pick a sample report → the assistant proposes a mapping and shows a live preview built from that report → you correct it by chatting ("company names must be the official list names", "shift times come from the Work tab") → every message revises the mapping and regenerates the preview → when the preview is right, Approve freezes the skill.
What each field does
- Skill name — what your team will see when running it (e.g. "Tollway Daily Report"). The slug underneath is its permanent id.
- Agency code (optional) — groups skills by agency (TOLLWAY, IDOT…) so a project tied to that agency surfaces the right ones first.
- Applies to — which record the skill reads. Today: the Inspector Daily Report. (Calc Book is coming.)
- Sample report — the report the skill learns from. Pick a real, well-filled report — the richer the sample, the better the first mapping. The list shows reports from your projects only.
- Tell the assistant about this process (optional) — house rules the mapping must obey: official company names, where shift times live, rounding conventions. Anything you'd tell a new hire.
- Output files — the agency's blank template plus at least one filled example of that same form. The pair is how the skill learns where your report's data lands on their paper.
While you chat
The preview regenerates after every message — read it like you'd review a junior inspector's draft. The validator panel lists anything suspicious (empty required cells, mismatched columns); clear those before approving.
Approve, then run
Approving publishes the skill. Inspectors run it from the Skills tab inside a daily report — pick the skill, it fills the agency form from that day's record, and the output files with the report. If the agency changes their form or you find a correction later, Refine re-opens the conversation against a real report and re-freezes.
Good habits
- One skill per agency deliverable — don't overload one skill with two forms.
- Teach corrections in the chat, not by hand-editing outputs — the whole point is that the next run repeats itself.
- If the sample list is empty: create a daily report in your project first — the skill needs a record to learn from.
